My little Graduate…

May 29, 2008 | Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments

It finally happened…my baby boy graduated from preschool! *sniff*sniff* He’s grown up so much since he started the 4yr pre-k. He went from a super shy guy who took forever to go into the classroom in the morning to my big boy who would only let me give him a kiss goodbye if no one was watching. At the beginning of the year he didn’t know all of his letters, much less the sounds. Now, he knows all of his letters by sight, with their sound and is even reading at Kindergarten level. He just blows us away. We are so proud of him.

I tried to take some pictures of him all dressed up, but apparently it was too bright outside. These were the only ones I could get. :)

Isn’t he handsome all dressed in his shirt & tie?! He looks like such a little man. In fact he said he looked just like daddy when he got dressed.

He would not look at me when I was taking a picture! Silly goose.

Here he is singing his little heart out…

Here he is getting his “diploma”, aka rolled up white paper with a ribbon. :)

AND, b/c this post is all about my little man, I thought I’d throw in his favorite song of the moment. He always wants me to play “say what you need to say” when we’re in the car and he’ll sing the chorus over & over again. Go ahead, say it with me, “awwwwwww”. :)

Nature…

May 21, 2008 | Filed Under Uncategorized | 5 Comments

Anyone who truly knows me, knows that I am not the nature girl type. I am not fond of the heat (or cold) and I despise BUGS. Actually, the only bugs that make me squeal are the ones that like to buzz by my ear and not go away or the ones that bite. I start to freak out when I shoo it away and it continues to buzz in my ear!

So, my hubby decides that we should go on a hike last weekend. You can imagine how excited I am about hiking, right? Being the trooper I am, I don’t whine or complain once. That’s right, just call me team player. I figure it’s family time and exercise all rolled in to one anyways. I decided to take my camera along too just in case I found anything interesting. The hike was all good. The weather was fantastic, the kids enjoyed being outside and to top it off I burned a whopping 750 calories. Woo-hoo!

I didn’t find much to photograph, but here are a couple of my pics from that day…

Facebook anyone?

So, apparently Facebook is the new Myspace. You can upload photos, posts messages on others “walls”, send little digital “gifts”, play lots of crazy games & stay in touch with people from all over. I have a facebook page under my name, Katie Higginbotham and also a Facebook Fan Page for Cherry Street Photo. Feel free to come on over and say hi! (Psst…If you write on my wall I’ll gift you a $25 credit towards your print purchase with any paid session fee) As part of my HS Senior sessions you will receive Facebook/Myspace images for you to use on your own pages. Heck, even if you’re not a senior, just ask when we do your session and I’ll send you some web images for your page too! :)

Also, there’s this application for Facebook called “Flair” that is so addictive & cool! You choose from a bunch of uploaded images and it will make those images into buttons and then you arrange them on a virtual corkboard. If you have a Facebook page & have a session done by me I will send you a personalized button with one of your pictures from our session. Then you’ll be able to stick it onto your corkboard on your page!

Here’s my current Flair:

Happy Belated Mother’s Day!

May 14, 2008 | Filed Under Personal | 2 Comments

I hope you all had a fantastic Mother’s Day!  My hubby & kids made a yummy breakfast complete with Mimosa’s.  After breakfast we all had a nice nap and then went to my moms house to visit and eat dinner.  I received my Mother’s Day present a little early b/c my 10 yr wedding anniversary was on May 7th and my gift was for anniversary & Mother’s Day.

Here’s a little hint at my present….

Okay, so not a great hint, but I’ll go ahead and tell ya. I got a Wacom Intuous3 Tablet!  It is insanely cool.  I am getting good at using the pen although I’m still a little slow so if I’m in a hurry I’ll revert to using the mouse. Also, in case it isn’t apparent, I did not take the below photo. It is from the Wacom website.

And, one more thing I have to share b/c it cracked me up! Happy Belated Mothers Day!

Wildflowers!

I always love seeing the wildflowers bloom. They are so colorful. Of course I normally see them in the median of a 6 lane highway or near a ditch, somewhere I can’t take pictures. So when my friend told me about this amazing wildflower field in bloom I was so excited. We made a date to go out there with a couple of our kids and have some fun. I think the two girls were hogging the attention b/c this is the most that Mr. H ever asks me to take his picture. Somehow I just wasn’t feeling extremely inspired with a boy in the middle of a bunch of flowers, but I did catch a couple that I liked.

First up is my boy and then the two girls are my friends kids. :)

Am I the cool mom now?

Being the grand-daughter of a hair dresser it was bound to happen. Ms. C has been bugging me to flat iron her hair and I said absolutely not. However, recently she asked for highlights and I decided to entertain the idea. The next logical question being, “what color?” Her answer? “ummmm, maybe purple or green.” Huh? I kind of laughed her off thinking there is no way that we are dying your hair with purple or green streaks. So a week or two goes by and I run into a girl, that strangely enough was a natural redhead and said she used to have purple streaks. At this point it was starting to sound a little less crazy so I decided let C take the plunge. I gave Nana the go ahead on the color and she had the color in hand within a few days. Nana’s fast. ;) I think C had a little brighter purple in mind, but overall I am pretty sure that she’s happy with how it turned out. I think it looks adorable. Subtle, but still there if you look hard. Check it out for yourself…

This one doesn’t really showcase her hair color, but I had to add it. Inspiration taken from .pinksugar. photography. I just loved when Andrea shot this of C a couple weeks ago and it was totally in my head when I was shooting this tonight.

Baby K…

Okay, so let’s forget that she’s two months old now.  I never showcased her newborn photos so I have to show them off.  Introducing, the not-so-new-anymore-but-was-when-I-took-these, Baby K.
