Jax Shoot Club…

September 10, 2009 | Filed Under Biz, Photographers, love, wedding | 4 Comments

The sky was dark and the thunder was making it’s presence known. Not a good sign when I was about to be outside with my camera in a few hours. Luckily the clouds parted and it turned out to be a gorgeous night for the first ever Jax Shoot Club meet-up.

I have to thank the two uber talented photographers, Kara Pennington Photography & La Dolce Vita Studios, who had the great idea to start up a shoot club here in Jacksonville. They planned everything from the location & models right down to the bridal bouquets to complete the shot. There were a lot of local photographers (& some a little far from home as well) to mingle with, we had several fabulous models to shoot and equally fabulous vendors! “Team Awesome” as they affectionately referred to themselves, did an amazing job of organizing this super fun event and I very much look forward to the next one!

Before you look at the shots I got that night, take a peek at the generous vendors that contributed to our get together…

•Bridal Bouquets were provided by Anything with Plants & Flowers: http://www.anythingwithplants.com

•Lauren’s Dress and bridal attire was provided by Solutions Bridal of Gainesville: http://www.solutionsbridal.com/
Her dress was by designer Alvina Valenta (style #9700) and her veil was by Lori London (style #VM95)

A big shout out to our models for the night as well seeing as we wouldn’t have had anyone to photograph without them! :)
Julianne and Greg (engagement couple)
Kelly & Chris (bride and groom)
Lauren (solo bride)

Lauren, our mock bride, was the first model my group shot so I have the most images of her. She was stunning and so working it for the camera! She was such a trooper!

techie talk : these two images were shot with external flash on-camera in manual mode. I’m still trying to figure out this whole flash thingy so I had fun playing and trying to get the output to look the way I wanted.

After the sky threatened our shootout with rain, mother nature ended up playing nice and giving us one wicked awesome sunset. It made for a gorgeous silhouette of our married couple, Kelly & Chris. Kelly, btw, was a real trooper as well. It’s hard work to stand & model for a million photographers while wilting in the FL heat in a heavy bridal gown, but she did a great job!

techie talk again : this one was shot with some fill flash as well

Momma got a new lens!! | cherry street photography [fun]

February 5, 2009 | Filed Under Personal, Photographers, project 365 | 1 Comment

It’s late and hubby comes home from going out to dinner with some friends. He says he has some good news for me…that I can buy the new lens I’ve been wanting! I didn’t debate at all, the next day I immediately ordered the Nikkor 35mm f/2.0. There are of course some REALLY fab other lenses that I want, but they are all a little over budget at the moment and I’ve really been eyeing the 35mm f/2.0. It arrived on a Monday. Probably one of the worst days it could arrive. Mondays are hectic and after errands, the gym, picking up the kids, gymnastics and dinner, I’m way to exhausted to play. Good news is that I got to play on Tuesday. :)

This lens seriously ROCKS! I was a little nervous b/c it seems luck of the draw whether you get a sharp or a soft copy. Thankfully I got a razor sharp copy! This baby could cut glass! LOVE it!

And here is my day 20 of project 365…(I told you it was sharp! :) )

Free to Succeed…

When I heard THE David Jay was going on tour and he was coming to Orlando, I knew I had to get a ticket. DJ is an amazing wedding photographer out in California. I heard him speak at a photography convention this past January and he was very inspiring. So, I got together with some other local photographers and we carpooled down to Orlando for the seminar. Unfortunately we all had kiddos that had to get to school in the morning so we had to drive back home that night. We left Jax around 3pm (amazingly didn’t hit much traffic in the Orlando area thank goodness) and I arrived back home a little after 2am. I was exhausted the next day! It was well worth it though. Okay, okay, so DJ is somewhat of a cutie. But that’s not why it was worth it (not the whole reason why anyway ;) ). He really does have some great information to share. He’s so sincere and kind hearted that you just want to bottle him up and carry him in your pocket. I came away refreshed, inspired and armed with some great ideas to spice up the business.

Here’s a shot of us with DJ (that’s me in the green in case you’re wondering) :)

Mark + Anne (cont’d)

June 18, 2008 | Filed Under Business, E-Sessions, Photographers | 7 Comments

Since they have now seen their gallery of images I want to post some of my favorites from their session. Mark isn’t too comfortable in front of the camera, but he was trying so hard to relax and I think it shows. Especially in the first picture.

Here is Anne’s ring. Isn’t it gorgeous?! If I remember correctly Mark picked this out all by himself. I love the sapphires to add a little pop of color.

Also, do you like the rounded corners on the photos? I made myself a photoshop action from some online tutorials. Feel free to download the action here. I made it in CS2 so I have no idea if it will work in the other versions. If you have a version other than CS2 and it works for you please let me know. :)
