Do Fun Stuff | Help Raise Awareness about SMS

August 30, 2010 | Filed Under Biz | Leave a Comment

Awhile ago I ran across an amazing photographer on Flickr. I was browsing for maternity inspiration and found the photos he had been taking of his wife. They were so different from everything else I had been seeing that I wanted to see more of his work..so I hopped on over to his blog (which btw is called Pacing the Panic Room and you should get over there right after you read the rest of this post). It was there that I got completely immersed in his life (through pictures & words of course). He comes across so genuine & real…not to mention his amazing photos. So when he asked for help a few months back it was a no brainer. You see, his sweet little boy (whom he affectionately calls LB online) has SMS, Smith-Magenis Syndrome and Ryan has been hard at work on a project that will hopefully create more awareness for this disorder. He, along with some incredible artists, has released a children’s cd where 100% of the proceeds go to a grant set up by PRISMS that will be available for Grad students who intend to make SMS their field of study.

You can check out the album below and then click on over to itunes to purchase it! Don’t have small children? Gift the album to someone who does! It’s such a cute album and you’re donating to a great cause as well. :)

baby #3 | jacksonville maternity photographer

My beautiful sister-in-law is pregnant with baby number 3….a surprise addition to the family, but a very welcome one! Last month I met up mommy-to-be and big sister in St. Augustine to document the growing belly. We walked around the busy area snapping shots where we could and dodging tourists. At the end we drove up to the third floor of the parking garage for a fun shot and some heavenly light!

It’s really not fair for her to look so gorgeous prego! Check out some of my favorite shots…

Took my girl out for some quick shots hoping to get a good headshot for the family, but it turned out not to be such a good day for eye contact & good smiles.

I like the ones I did get though. :)

Jenn & Bryan are hitched! | Ponte Vedra Wedding

April 26, 2010 | Filed Under Biz | 1 Comment

A few weeks ago I had coffee with a local photographer, Jenn Hopkins. Jenn had asked me to second shoot a wedding with her and we were meeting to go over details for the big day. Having never actually met Jenn in real life I was a little nervous how we’d get along or work together. Turns out I had absolutely NOTHING to worry about…Jenn was super sweet and we got along awesome. Plus, she’s a big fan of staying organized on the wedding day which I LOVE!

Fast forward to April 10th…it was a beautiful FL day…sunny, but not too hot with the perfect amount of breeze. Jenn (the bride) was getting ready with her girls at the Plantation while the boys were out having lunch. Even though both Jenn & Bryan had said no gifts they BOTH broke that rule! Bryan sent over some gorgeous flowers that made Jen melt and Jenn gave Bryan some personalized cufflinks with a long loving note. They were just the sweetest, laid back, most adorable couple and their wedding was gorgeous!

After you check out my shots from the day head on over to Jenn’s blog to see her awesomeness!

Long overdue…

April 21, 2010 | Filed Under Biz | Leave a Comment

Hi friends! Long time, no post! Hopefully now that the weather has started getting nicer I will be posting more. I’m a very bad blogger I know, but don’t give up on me yet! :)

So if you follow me on twitter or Facebook you know that I have been workin’ on my fitness for some time now. I’ve gotten into a schlump since the beginning of winter, but I’m feeling a millions times more motivated with this warmer weather. Or maybe it’s the scary fact that I’ll be in a bathing suit soon! Either way I like to stay motivated to keep on top of my cardio by signing up for events. Last October I did the Tower of Terror 5K with my 9yo daughter. We both ran the whole race and it was an awesome experience! I was so proud of my girlie! For those who haven’t seen it, here we are at the end of the race. Looking pretty good for just running a 5K I think. :)

Like I said before, the weather had me pretty unmotivated so other than sporadic weight training my cardio has taken a dive. To kick start bikini season I decided to join some of my gym peeps and we took on the task of the Multiple Sclerosis Jacksonville Mud Run. A 10K boot camp style race with MUD all around! I couldn’t have asked for a better team! I think we were all a pretty good match. We all took turns at being the motivator to drive us to the end and through massive leg cramps and tweeked knees, we all crossed the finish line together!

The following shots are a compilation of team cameras….two of us had Fuji Waterproof disposable cameras that we drug through the mud with us and then we had a real point & shoot for some more great shots!

Wowza, I am SO behind on blogging. The beginning of 2010 has been super busy and I can’t believe we’re already at the end of January! I figured I’d share this little cutie before it’s time to blog her TWO year photos. Yes, I’ve really been holding out on this blog post for THAT long!

you might remember her here at 12 months…

This time around she’s a little bit older and if possible, she’s gotten even cuter than she was! I had a blast photographing her as usual and she was her perky happy self the whole session!

meet Manny…

December 12, 2009 | Filed Under Biz | 2 Comments

he’s our new elf! This year we started a new Christmas tradition. It’s called “the Elf on the Shelf”. Each night Manny flys to the North Pole and reports to Santa whether the kids have been naughty or nice and when he flys back he always picks a different spot in the house to land. The only rule is that the kids aren’t allowed to TOUCH him or his Christmas magic might go away. They are encouraged to tell Manny their wish list, but don’t expect him to talk back. He’s under strict orders from Santa that he can’t say a word to the kiddies! He can, however, talk to us adults.

Manny has landed in all sorts of places. So far he’s been on top of the Christmas tree, hanging from the sconce in the foyer, sitting on the blender on the kitchen counter and this morning the kids found him on the indoor basketball goal. Who knows where he’ll end up next!

Here are a few pics from Manny’s first night at the house…

Jax Shoot Club | cherry street photography {models}

It’s always a blast when you get to chat and hang out with fellow photographers. Back in September the Jax Shoot Club had another meet up and this time our focus was “portraits”. Apparently word travels fast and there were a whopping 80+ photographers at our shoot out that night, compared to 30 the month before. It was craziness! But fun craziness.

A huge thanks to Faythe Mesic for the awesome make-up and Sonia Garza for all the models’ hairstyles!

Thank you to all the models as well! They did a fabulous job!

memories…

November 16, 2009 | Filed Under Biz | Leave a Comment

You know all those things that happen daily that are just part of life, but don’t seem like anything special? I got reminded recently that EVERY moment is special in it’s own way and even though they seem ordinary at the time, you will cherish them in a few years when everything has changed.

It all started when I decided to transfer our home videos to the computer to save them in digital format. While I was so happy that I have some video of the kids when they were younger, it also made me sad. Sad that time passes way too quickly and sad that I didn’t video more every day life moments. We always think we have to record the big moments…Christmas plays, graduation, etc. But out of all the recordings, I cherished the normal every day moments the most….the way they talked, their mannerisms, what they liked/didn’t like, how they danced/sang, what they looked like. I get teary eyed just thinking back to all the moments lost to time. So, instead of dwelling on what a I should have done, I came to the conclusion that I can’t turn back time and record more of their childhood, but I CAN start recording more at the ages they are now!

Here are two gems from when my babies were 5 yrs old & 2.5 yrs old…

Hayden talking with mommy

Caitlin & Hayden dancing in the living room to Hilary Duff…a song Caitlin knows by heart now and was one of her favorites when she was in voice lessons!
